To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Phil Carson and I have been involved on the sport of fencing for over 30 years both as a senior international competitor and as a coach. I have coached at the City Fencing Club since 1995. In recent times, my fencers have taken 5 British Championship titles at various age groups, 4 Gold medals at Home Internationals and Gold and Silver team medals at the 2006 Commonwealth Championships.
Helen Fairhead is one of my star performers. In the last 3 years Helen has moved from top 50 in the UK rankings to 4th. I expect her ranking to move to 3rd in the next 12 months and for her to achieve selection for the England Squad for the 2010 Commonwealth Championships.
To maintain this level of performance Helen is training 6 days a week. As well as fitness and conditioning and fencing practice, Helen has 3-4 individual lessons per week with me. In addition, she is competing in approximately 20 events a year, both in this country and in Europe, as well as attending twice yearly training camps in the USA with the current Olympic champions. All of this has been self-funded until now. Helen is a very talented and dedicated athlete who has made extraordinary progress in the last 12 months. She clearly can go higher.
