GETECH WDMAM Add-ons for World Wind

GETECH has created two separate add-ons for use with NASA's open source World Wind software. The first add-on is a "standard" package with the WDMAM data served up as a series of tiled images.

The second add-on package also includes a new surface based on the WDMAM field values. If this add-on is installed this will effectively create a "new world" in World Wind who's 'topographic' surface is made up of magnetic anomaly values.

About WDMAM

This is the NGDC/GETECH contribution to the World Digital Magnetic Anomaly Map (WDMAM). Teams of scientists were invited by the International Association for Geomagnetism and Aeronomy to produce global candidate maps for WDMAM using a common pool of airborne, marine and satellite magnetic anomaly data. The WDMAM is specified at 5 km above the geoid with 3 arc minute angular resolution.

The official WDMAM will be released in July 2007 by the UNESCO Commission for the Geological Map of the World. It will be available in print and on digital media from CGMW, 77, rue Claude-Bernard, 75005 Paris, France.

About World Wind

World Wind is open source Windows software that lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any place on Earth. Leveraging Landsat satellite imagery and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data, World Wind lets you experience Earth terrain in visually rich 3D, just as if you were really there.
