Petroleum Systems of Libya
Summary
This study provides fundamental new insights into the tectonic history, basin evolution and morphology of all the principal onshore and offshore basins of Libya.
It gives oil companies who are reviewing prospective new areas of Libya a valuable digital ArcGIS database of gravity, magnetic and well 'tops' data. Basement terranes and zonations, related to important tectonic events, are discussed in the context of potential hydrocarbon emplacement.
It includes a map of Pre-Cambrian basement, derived from 85 wells that reach basement, gravity and magnetic modelling, outcrop geology, and published maps and reports.

Scope of the Study
- Stratigraphic re-correlation using formation 'tops' from over 700 wells
- 2D and 3D analysis and interpretation of gravity and magnetic data, with geological control from well tops and geological maps
- Derivation of isopachs and horizon maps of the principal geological units
- Construction of depth of Pre-Cambrian basement map
- Delineation of tectonic zones that have undergone a similar tectonic evolution through time
- Insights into the basin structure and hydrocarbon potential of frontier basins
- Maturity analysis of the main source rocks
- In-depth geological understanding of the region from Dr Saad's Jassim own personal experience in Iraq and numerous published
Deliverables
The principal products of the study are;

- Ten regional geological cross-sections across the principal basins, modelled with gravity and well control
- Depth-to-Pre-Cambrian basement map
- Hydrocarbon source rock maturity maps
- Digital grids of all principal geological horizons and thicknesses
- Digital 'Well Tops' database of over 700 wells
- A full digital ArcGIS project containing geotiff images, scanned and geo-referenced maps and hotlinked profiles
- Hardcopy and digital (.pdf) report discussing the stratigraphy, basement terranes, tectonic history and paleogeography of the region
